| A Definition of Amma® | ||
Amma® or amno (as it was known as during the Han dynasty) is ancient oriental bodywork based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. The word “Am-ma” means, “push-pull” in ancient Chinese. The body’s bioenergy called “Qi” (pronounced Chee as in Cheetah) flows along energy channels. There are 72 channels in which Qi, blood and fluids circulate. There are 12 Primary Channels, 16 Connecting Channels, 8 Extraordinary Vessels, 12 Divergent Channels, 12 Tendino-Muscle Channels and 12 Cutaneous Regions.. |

This Qi is responsible for all the body’s functions. When it becomes blocked or stagnated due to poor diet, emotions, external conditions, constitutional weaknesses, etc., it causes an imbalance in the system resulting in disharmony or illness. Amma®, like acupuncture manipulates the energy in the channels and certain acupoints to facilitate the free flow of Qi and healing. The points are accessed with finger pressure instead of fine needles used in acupuncture. Specific groups of points are used to treat different symptoms. | |
Amma® therapy consists of manual bodywork in conjunction with nutritional and lifestyle changes. It is an integrated and cooperative approach to health and healing between the Amma® Therapist and the individual seeking wellness. |
